Overflow

Project Year: 2023

Client: Personal

Type: Animation

The goal of Overflow was to create an animation using new motion graphics techniques and design trends. I started by finding some inspiration and creating a moodboard. Once I had my moodboard, I moved into drawing up my storyboard. I knew I wanted to have a consistent rotation to assist with each transition. With that I drew up style frames and finalized those designs.

After the designs were done, I planned out how to transition from one scene to the next and how each element would keep the flow of the video moving forward. I finished my storyboard and next I moved into blocking. I took my style frames and timed them out with the transitions I wanted with nulls. Once I had my transitions finished, I imported all of my assets and moved into animating each scene.

I animated most scenes with a mixture of 2D and 3D objects. I also made it a point to keep the motion between scenes constant and fluid by replicating motion with different objects or using similar shapes. I finished my animation and timed my scenes out to hit natural beats. I finished out my editing by adding a subtle grain effect, a posterize time effect, some chromatic aberration and some turbulence displace for some texture and a hand drawn feel.

Play the bottom video for the final render.
